The Problem
If you've ever tried to find a house to rent in Lagos, you already know the story. You call an agent, they ask for a "inspection fee" before you've even seen the place. You find a listing online, the price is wrong, the photos are fake, or the property is already taken. You join a WhatsApp group and get flooded with messages but can't verify anything.
Lagos has millions of people looking for housing every year, and the system for finding that housing is completely broken. Agents are gatekeepers, not helpers. Landlords have no easy way to reach tenants directly. Tenants have no way to know if what they're seeing is real.
"I knew people who paid inspection fees for properties that didn't exist. I knew others who moved into apartments that looked nothing like the photos. The whole process was designed to extract money, not help people find homes."
What I Built
EasyHomes is a property search platform built specifically for Lagos. It covers all 20 LGAs and lets you search for rentals, properties for sale, and short stays in one place.
The key features I focused on:
- Direct listings — landlords and verified agents post directly, no middlemen adding fees
- Neighbourhood search — filter by area, not just by LGA
- Verified listings badge — properties that have been confirmed as real and available
- Agent dashboard — for professional agents to manage multiple listings
- Short stay section — for people needing a place for days or weeks, not years
I built the frontend in React, with HTML and CSS for structure and styling. The platform is hosted on GitHub Pages while the full backend is in development.
Why I Built It
I love building things that solve real problems. Not just technically elegant things, but things that make a difference to someone's actual life. Housing in Lagos is one of the biggest pain points people deal with, and I wanted to see what a better version of that process could look like.
EasyHomes is also a proof of what Easywise Studio can build. It's not a demo. It's not a mockup. It's a real product with real features that real people can use.
What's Next
The platform is live and growing. The next phase includes a full backend with real-time availability updates, a mobile app version, and expanding beyond Lagos to other major Nigerian cities.
